A clean-well lighted place, in front of the sad truth.

In Ernest Hemingway’s “A Clean-Well Lighted Place” it seems to me that age has a lot to do with time and how we perceive it. The elder men don’t see the point in rushing about because they have had full lives as opposed to the younger waiter who is in a hurry. With this being a clean and well lit cafe it has a nicer and warmer feel to it compared to the dark and dirty pubs in the area. This gives a since of purity to the cafe, the older waiter has no problem allowing the old man to spend his time her to drink. He realizes the old man has nothing left to live for and just wants to kill time in an easy way. To me the story shows two stages of life, First the hustle and bustle where you have energy to do the things you want but none of the time as opposed to later where you have all the time but no drive to do anything.
